Yauheny Vaskovich does not receive even postcards

Alesya Skapintsova, a former colleague of Yauhen Vaskovich from “Bobruiski Kuryer” newspaper, received the first letter from him.

A prisoner of Mahilou penal colony No. 4 does not confirm suppositions of Babruisk dwellers, who thought Yauheny does not receive letters only from them. It turned out that his letter do not reach all recipients, Viasna human rights centre reports.

It is unknown why censors allowed this particular letter. “Unfortunately, I do not receive your letters, though I wrote you several times. I’ll try to continue to write you,” the letter reads.

Yauheny writes he has no complaints at health and mood and asks to send greetings to “all our journalists”.

Taisia Kabanchuk, Vaskovich’s party fellow, has not received a single letter from him. Yauheny’s grandmother reports her grandson has not received any birthday cards, thought he marked his birthday a long time ago, on February 26. Babruisk colleagues and friends sent scores of postcards to him.

“It’s a pity even greeting cards cannot pass censorship,” Taisia Kabanchuk says. “I am sure it is done on purpose, to keep our political prisoners in isolation in order they cannot feel support.”
