At least 4 people were arrested from 3 to 15 days in Minsk after anarchist rally that was held this Monday. There were no police during the Rally that lasted for 5 minutes. However later on people were detained by police from their working places. They were prosecuted next day for disobedience and violation of rules of public gatherings.

Some activists started gathering solidarity money for working comrades as they won’t get at least half of their salary after 15 days in Prison. If you wanna donate to those people you can use our paypal account belarus_abc@riseup.net, but please state the cause of transaction.

Arrests, detentions and interrogations – World Hockey Championship 2014 in Minsk

Logo_en

Several hours left before the official start of the World Hockey Championship 2014 in Belarus. Event that was planned in 2009 during another political thaw between the West and Lukashenko was constantly criticized by human rights and political organizations for support of Lukashenko’s political regime. Many groups called national hockey teams to boycott the championship, however International Federation of Ice Hockey decided once again that sport is standing apart from politics and retained the right for hosting championship in Minsk. But it is impossible to keep sport business away from politics. For Lukashenko this championship is a unique way to legitimize Belarusian political system on behalf of tournament participants. On the one hand, we see harsh critics of the regime from the West, on the other hand, Minsk today is full of national flags of teams participating in the show. In this atmosphere the political tensions seem to be gone and everyone is going to enjoy the truce.

At the time when players of national teams will be ice skating and monkeying around in ice palaces build for this one-time event, and tourists, the ones that will dare to come to Belarus, will be spending their money to recover Belarusian economy, Belarusian police and KGB will increase repressions of any Lukashenko’s political opponents. Nowadays dozens of activists ended up in jail based on false minor cases.

Pussy Riot’s Nadezhda Tolokonnikova: Why I have gone on hunger strike

Pussy Riot's Nadezhda Tolokonnikova

Beginning Monday, 23 September, I am going on hunger strike. This is an extreme method, but I am convinced that it is my only way out of my current situation.

The penal colony administration refuses to hear me. But I, in turn, refuse to back down from my demands. I will not remain silent, resigned to watch as my fellow prisoners collapse under the strain of slavery-like conditions. I demand that the colony administration respect human rights; I demand that the Mordovia camp function in accordance with the law. I demand that we be treated like human beings, not slaves. (more…)

Moscow: Police threaten violence against parents of arrested anti-fascist

Anti-fascist Alen Volikov, who is under arrest at Moscow’s Butyrka pre-trial detention centre, was visited by police operatives on November 13, and subjected to psychological pressure aimed at making him admit his guilt. Volikov’s lawyer Farid Murtazin reported that the operatives made threats of violence against his family members. The officers said that they would not leave Volikov’s parents alone, and would set Federal Security Service (FSB) officers on them.

After that, the operatives said that out of all three people named as suspects in the “Moscow anti-fascist case”, Volikov would get the largest amount of charges, including charges under Article 282, Part 1 of the Russian Criminal Code (organising criminal community). Volikov’s lawyer was not informed about the interview. At the moment, complaints to be filed with prosecutor’s office are being prepared.

Volikov was detained on November 6 on suspicion of involvement in the December 2011 brawl at Moscow’s Vozdukh club, as well as of beating up a nationalist. The venue’s security guards, who were nationalists, attacked gig-goers at an anti-fascist gig, and then accused the ant-fascists of attacking them. A criminal case was started under Article 213, Part 2 of the Russian Criminal Code (hooliganism committed by a group of persons). Moscow-based anti-fascists Alexei Olesinov and Alexei Sutuga were detained in February and April 2012 respectively. They remain in pre-trial detention, like Volikov. Investigators try to accuse them of beating up a young nationalist, but the charges were not yet filed. According to Sutuga and Olesinov, the victims signed statements incriminating them under pressure from the operatives, including FSB officers. (more…)

Through the Looking-Glass and through the hell

In August, Pyotr Silayev was arrested in Granada, Spain by anti-terrorist special forces. He was then moved to Madrid, where the Audiencia Nacional was to make a decision about his extradiction to Russia. All this based on charges stemming from a demonstration organized by anti-fascists and enviromentalists against the city administration of Khimki, Moscow region. He was released after 8 days, but he is still stuck in Spain, pending the decision of his extradiction to Russia. In the article below, he goes back to the events of autumn of 2010, in order to explain why he should not be extradicted to Russia.

I was asked to write about my time in a Spanish prison, but I have not much more to say, except that every second I praised the lord that I am not in a Russian prison.

In Spain, we criss-crossed the concrete floor every day together with drug dealers and robbers. We played ping-pong and black jack, chewed apples, but my thoughts were far away. I was thinking about the hell covered in eternal snow, which is the Možaisk remand prison; where bandits and villains want to torment me for the following 13 years. (more…)
