This letter was given to Masha’s friends by one of her lawyers, Nikolay Polozov. It was written back when she didn’t have an opportunity to pass letters to anyone. She was transferred to a more desnely-populated prison cell after.

Second day of pre-trial detention.
My only cell-mate Nina and I sleep on metal beds in outdoor clothes. She sleeps in a fur coat, I sleep in a coat.
It’s so cold in the cell our noses get red and our feet are ice cold, but we are not allowed to get into bed under the covers before the bedtime bell. The holes in the window frames are stuffed in with hygiene pads and bread crumbs, the sky is all orange from the street lamps at night.
I’ve officially stopped my hunger strike so I now drink warm coloured water (tea) and eat dry bread three times a day. The metal bed tables are terrifying, it seems it’s easy to smash your head against the edges. (more…)
From the first months of the initiative ‘Food Not Bombs’ in Minsk, the participants were faced with police attention. Initially, these ‘encounters’ were irregular and probably coincidental. But since the end of 2009 the police was deliberately attending food distribution. ABC Belarus collected references to these situations from open sources, describing only part of all the events, in order to give some idea about the development and escalation of the conflict.
The first food distribution of Food Not Bombs in Minsk was held in the summer of 2005. The cops attended the place of the action a month later, when some people from the neighbourhood called the police patrol. Soon, the participants were forced to relocate because of the fights between two men who came to eat, which provoked the police to stop the distribution. After the change of the meeting place, the police often appeared, but without any consequences. The rank and file police officers have not been interested in the initiative; they usually spoke a couple of standard phrases, or copied the IDs of the people, and then left. The movement evolved, with a new group. In early 2009 members of the groups began to distribute food in Mikhailovsky Park, near the train station. (more…)
(more…)
The Supreme Court of Belarus has dismissed supervisory complaint against the verdict of Ihar Alinevich.
It has been done in almost half a year later the supervisory complaint was accepted for consideration, Belarusian Partisan informs.
The Supreme Court of Belarus has dismissed the complaint of Ihar Alinevich, a political prisoner, to consider the verdict in a supervisory procedure. Having admitted the complaint for examination last autumn, the Supreme Court condescended to give an answer only on March 13. And moreover, it has been done “in a very aggressive key”, as noted by the mother of the political prisoner, Valyantsina Alinevich.
“An answer to the complaint has been received from the Supreme Court. As anticipated, it was a strongly negative answer. It virtually repeats the answer of Minsk City Court: everything is legal, there have been no falsifications. It is surprising that phrases are very aggressive. They have expressed their aggression and rage. Our lawyer, an experienced lawyer, is at a loss… (more…)
